How to Claim

Easy, quick and fully supported

How do I make a notification/claim?

Your obligation to notify us

No matter if it is a claim or just a notification, you are obligated to tell us within 30 days from when you first noticed the issue (e.g. saw a doctor or CASA changed the status of your Class 1 Medical Certificate).

Notification

The process of notifying us is called a Notification of an Aeronautical Significant Event/Condition (ASE/C).

If you fail to do this then we may delay or refuse future benefits.

The process can be started via the MBF Member Portal.

How it works

  • A Notification is not a Claim, but a ‘heads-up’ that you are currently grounded, perhaps due to illness or injury, and working on regaining your Class 1.
  • From the Notification, eligible Benefits start 28 days after the date of onset or at the end of sick leave, whichever occurs last.

Making a Claim

If you lose the privileges of your Class 1 Medical Certificate temporarily or permanently, you may be eligible receive a benefit.

Key points

  • Monthly Benefit payments shall be capped at a gross payment of $15,000 per month but shall not be more than one twelfth of a Claimant’s annual Piloting Income at the Date of Onset.
  • All Monthly Benefit payments will be paid for a maximum of twenty-four (24) months unless otherwise restricted in duration in accordance with the conditions and durations within Rule 7 – Appendix A.
  • Where a Class 1 Medical Certificate is permanently lost, a Claimant may receive payment of the Capital Benefit Balance, subject Rule 8.
  • Your Capital Benefit Balance is payable after an 84-day waiting period to a maximum $1,200,000.
